"I’ve been working with animals, dogs specifically a little over 5 years and I can tell you first hand how cruel the rescue world can be. Between the lack of respect and decency the dogs are reduced to by humans and the expectation and demand that we are supposed to accommodate their every wish is just mind blowing. I have not always had the patience or understanding for people but working with the dogs that I have over the years has taught me a level of patience and to gauge every situation differently. Dogs come in fearful and confused, and then to have me, a total stranger responsible for caring for them, they don’t know what to expect.

I found myself growing into the roll of someone who is their protector, their advocate. Someone who will sit for hours alongside their kennels feeding them treats while I talk to them letting them know my presence is there they have someone to trust. Every dog I have worked with has a particular “quirk” to them which in the public eye would label them “difficult” where they would be surrendered, dumped, or abandoned. I wouldn’t call myself an expert but I definitely read a dog’s energy and watch their body language and adjust to them to make them more comfortable and diffuse any possible situations… Same thing I have learned with dealing with the public who often come in heated, I read the situation and de-escalate to help calm things down."
